A Pointless Debate?
When it comes to mankind's eternal destiny is the debate between Evolution and Creation Science a pointless discussion? The debate has many facets that need to be explored but I'm specifically thinking of mankind's eternal destiny.
The links between primal organisms and complex flora and fauna are still debatable, as is the gap between primates and humanoids. However, if all of the missing links were found and if all of the gaps were filled and Evolution was a definitive proven scientific fact, there would still be one gap that was not filled. This is the great dividing chasm between carnal and spiritual man. Jesus made that clear when he said, " That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6)
At Evolutions highest point of development, when mankind has reached the zenith of intellectual and moral stature and tries to cross the border of the spiritual heavenly realm it is blocked from further progress. Flesh and blood is barred from the spiritual realm, specifically from the heavenly spiritual realm, as is clearly stated in I Cor. 15:50: “Flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God.”
When Jesus tried to explain to a learned religious leader, Nicodemus, how this mystery could be truth he, Nicodemus, couldn't understand it. Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Jesus went on to say, “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going."
Jesus said that this new birth depends on belief in Him. “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life." John's gospel also tells us, “But as many as received Christ, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God."
Human reason cannot get you born again. Knowledge and information about God cannot get you born again. Following religious rituals and repeating religious liturgy cannot get you born again. The only way we can be born again is by the will of God and the express intent and action of the Holy Spirit who "blows where he will." In other words it is up to God, we can only respond to his call, a call that we cannot initiate.
So whether you believe that we are descended from Adam and Eve who were specially created by God, or whether you believe we are the result of a long process of evolution, it has no bearing on our eternal destination.
Maybe we should spend more time discussing where we are going rather than where we have come from.
